Rod-Stewart-Have-I-Told-You-Lately

Twenty years ago, during the week ending June 26, 1993, Rod Stewart’s cover of “Have I Told You Lately” was in the Top 5 of the pop music charts. Stewart’s version was a remake of Van Morrison’s 1989 release of the same song he originally wrote and performed.

Both the Morrison and Stewart recordings were popularly requested wedding first dance songs during the 90’s and into the early 2000’s. Today, however, “Have I Told You Lately,” is a more commonly requested song for the Father/Daughter (Bride) and/or Mother/Son (Groom) wedding dance. As a matter of fact, Van Morrison & Rod Stewart will still find their individual renditions of Have I Told You Lately” on the Top 50 list of favorite songs brides & grooms have their wedding DJ play while dancing with their parents–although the Van Morrison recording is the more popular choice by most newlyweds in the Kansas City area.

Check out both versions of “Have I Told You Lately as performed by Van Morrison & Rod Stewart in the videos below and let us know which is your favorite in the comments.

Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Wedding Dance Song:
“Have I Told You Lately” Lyrics

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there’s no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do

Oh the morning sun in all it’s glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
And you fill my life with laughter
You can make it better
Ease my troubles that’s what you do

There’s a love that’s divine
And it’s yours and it’s mine
Like the sun at the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray to the one

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there’s no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do

There’s a love that’s divine
And it’s yours and it’s mine
And it shines like the sun
At the end of the day we will give thanks
And pray to the one

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there’s no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do

Take away my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles that’s what you do
Fill my life with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles that’s what you do.
