This week ABC’s Good Morning America hosted an “Epic Wedding Showdown.” Out of 700 entries from across the country, four engaged couples were chosen and given an opportunity to compete for a Valentine’s Day wedding in New York City’s Times Square. As a bonus, the wedding ceremony will be broadcast live on GMA and recording artist, John Legend, will perform as the winning couple’s wedding singer.
The fun and somewhat unusual competition took place on the morning show from February 5-7, 2014. The couples were assigned one of 4 four colors to designate their “team;” red, green yellow and blue. One couple was eliminated each day.
The first day’s contest was an obstacle course race that required the couples to dress in wedding attire, perform a lock armed toast and jump into a giant box filled with tulle to find a bouquet that matched the color of their team before ringing a bell to indicate that they had completed the contest. The first two teams to ring the bell advanced to the next day’s contest. The remaining winning team was not chosen in the order they completed the tasks but by an audience vote.
View the first day of competition, including a little background on each engaged couple, in the “Epic Wedding Showdown” in the video below.
The second day of competition on the Good Morning America, “Epic Wedding Showdown” included a “Who Takes The Cake,” wedding cake decorating contest. The three remaining teams were placed behind three identical but undecorated cakes. They were then shown a wedding cake that had been decorated by celebrity chef and “Cake Boss,” Buddy Valastro. The couples were given cake decorations and 1-minute to re-create Buddy’s cake as closely as possible.
Actually, I think this contest was better than the obstacle course race from the day before. Watch the video and let me know what you think in the comments below.
So now we’ve come to the third and final day of the Good Morning America, “Epic Wedding Showdown.” This contest was “Ring In To Win” and very similar to a game show. The two remaining couples were asked wedding related questions, each worth 100 points. If they answered correctly, they won the points. If they answered incorrectly, the other couple was given an opportunity to steal the points.
