Over 400 family members and friends came together for a wedding reception on June 25, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence, MO, to celebrate the happiness of Ryan & Rachel Reynolds. Ron Ruth of Ron Ruth Wedding Entertainment, Kansas City, MO, was invited to provide the wedding DJ, Master of Ceremonies and Wedding Entertainment Director™ services.
Ryan, a recent graduate of KU with a doctorate in pharmaceutical science, and Rachel, a nurse and MU grad, attended the same middle school, ran track together and were even lab partners in anatomy class during their days in high school. But, neither had any thought of a relationship with the other or realized what destiny had in store.
It wasn’t until 4 years later, the summer of 2009, that they would re-connect and suddenly appreciate that they were, indeed, made for each other. A little more than a year later, Ryan surprised Rachel with a beautiful engagement ring and proposal in front of the tiger cage at the St. Louis Zoo.
Ryan and Rachel’s signature “Love Story” was just one of many entertaining elements they provided for their guests at their Kansas City wedding reception. They also had some fun with their wedding party by providing information on each friend that allowed me to “roast” them during the introductions.
Making great use of the video screen they acquired for their memory video, they incorporated a power point presentation of “Bride & Groom Trivia” as an amusing and orderly way to invite guests to the buffet. As the questions about Ryan & Rachel appeared on the screen, the guests were asked to stand and give the correct answer in order to be next to get their meals. In true game show fashion, the answers were then revealed on the video screen.
One of the more amusing moments of the wedding reception came when Ryan & Rachel played a rousing and laugh-filled version of “The Newlywed Game” with questions that came from their family and friends.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the surprise twist to Rachel’s dance with her father, when their song, “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle, was suddenly interrupted by “Jai Ho” by A.R. Rahman & The Pussycat Dolls. That unexpected transition from a sentimental favorite to a high energy dance song made famous in the movie “Slumdog Millionaire,” included a choreographed, surprise flash mob dance performed by Rachel and her Dad before being joined by Ryan and their friends in the wedding party. When the dance ended, the guests jumped to their feet and cheered. (You can see just a small piece of the dance toward the end of the spectacular wedding video preview from Kansas City’s A To Z Video & Photography below. I hope to post more of the dance some time in the near future.)
With so many exciting, engaging and memorable wedding reception activities leading up to the open dancing, the party immediately went into high gear and the dance floor never emptied until the evening came to an end.
It was a pleasure to be Ryan & Rachel’s creative partners, assisting them with the celebration of their happiness and such an extraordinarily fun & memorable Kansas City wedding reception. Our thanks to the newlyweds for including us!
